There
have been many attempts made, over the years, to tell that
story included in book form, in newspaper articles, on stage
and radio but all were very wide of the mark. Many differing
articles have been written about her, most of which have been
so far removed from reality that they bear no resemblance
to the real truth!
I
would like to put the record straight once and for all. I
intend to tell the life story and achievements of a show business
personality who was so totally different to all other fellow
professionals. She was unique in so many ways. I will tell
it how it really was, because nobody could have been closer
to her than me. Why? Because I’m very proud to say—Ruby
was my wife!
Ruby
was a gem in every sense of the word. Quite a few writers
got that part right about her but I’d like to embellish
that statement further by saying – she was not just
a gem, she was a very precious gem, one that is not likely
to be found in the world of entertainment ever again. Her
life was a topsy-turvy, roller-coaster ride through happiness
and heartbreak, success and failure, laughter and tears, comedy
and tragedy. Yet through it all, her achievements were unsurpassed
and at the same time she was able to maintain her wonderful
sense of humour.
